Testing the gut microflora allows for precise (possible by diagnostic methods) determination of the quantity of bacteria: both pathogenic and those essential for the proper functioning of the body. Due to the numerous interactions of the microflora on the host's health, assessing its composition seems to be an essential diagnostic tool for identifying the causes of many disease entities. Based on this knowledge, appropriate treatment is implemented in the form of probiotic therapy and prebiotic therapy, which involves conditioning the intestine, an extremely important element in the prevention of diseases associated with intestinal dysbiosis.

The examination evaluates:

  • presence of gut bacteria
  • protective gastrointestinal microflora
  • microflora stimulating the immune system
  • proteolytic microflora responsible for putrefactive processes
  • potentially pathogenic bacteria
  • other parameters: pH and consistency of stool
  • yeast-like fungi (including Candida spp.)
  • mold fungi

The analysis is quantitative. The test result includes an evaluation and interpretation by a microbiology specialist, and upon the patient's request, probiotic recommendations suggested by a nutrition specialist.

Individual indicator microorganisms determined in the test:

  • anaerobes of the genera Bacteroides and Bifidobacterium
  • bacteria of the genus Enterococcus
  • rods of the species E. coli
  • potentially pathological form of E. coli known as biovar
  • anaerobic rods of the genus Clostridium
  • lactic acid bacteria of the genus Lactobacillus, including those producing hydrogen peroxide
  • rods from the family Enterobacteriaceae –Proteus spp, Providencia spp., Morganella spp., Klebsiella spp., Enterobacter spp.,Citrobacterspp., Serratia spp., Hafnia alvei
  • non-fermenting rods of the genus Pseudomonas
  • other bacteria individual to the patient
  • total number of bacteria
  • yeast-like fungi (including Candida spp.)
  • mold fungi

Indications for performing the test:

  • allergic symptoms, atopic dermatitis, hay fever, and others
  • frequent infections of bacterial and/or viral etiology
  • gastrointestinal disorders
  • irritable bowel syndrome
  • non-specific inflammatory bowel diseases
  • preventive assessment of gut microflora (especially after antibiotic therapy)
  • suspicion of increased fungal colonization of the gastrointestinal tract
  • disorders within the autism spectrum

SAMPLING INSTRUCTIONS

General Information

Patient preparation for stool sampling and the method of sampling, storing, and transporting the sample have a significant impact on the reliability of the result. Therefore, it is necessary to adhere to the following recommendations.

When NOT TO COLLECT stool for testing?

The test result will not be reliable if the material for testing is collected during the intake of: antibiotics, antifungal drugs, antipyretic drugs. The test can be performed at least 2 weeks after the end of treatment.

Sample collection and preparation for transport - general rules

For parasite testing, samples should be collected from several places in the stool, from TWO CONSECUTIVE bowel movements, i.e., from two days, each in a separate container. For microbiota and intestinal inflammation testing, ONE sample is sufficient.

Before submitting stool for testing, the bladder should be completely emptied. Stool should not come into contact with water, urine, or cleaning agents (detergents).

  1. Take plastic containers with spatulas inside out of the box.
  2. Using a plastic spatula, take samples from several places in the stool passed. The container should be filled no more than halfway.
  3. Close the container tightly with the sample of stool. Store at room temperature until transportation.
  4. Fill in patient data on the slip and sign the order.

ALL SAMPLES with collected material should be packed into a box, remembering to fill out the referral form, and sent to the laboratory address:

ALLERGEN Center for Personalized Medicine
